04/10/08 - Citizenship Day Makes a Stop in Willmar

(04/10/08) MINNEAPOLIS — On April 19, The Main Street Project (MSP) will be partnering with the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) to offer "Citizenship Day 2008". The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Paz y Esperzana Lutheran Church in Willmar. "We are thrilled that this event is coming to Willmar—it will allow many individuals the opportunity to take that important first step, and we are pleased to be able to help with that in any way that we can," María Díaz, Cluster Coordinator, Raíces Project said. Though this is the second year for the event nationally, this is the first time that it will be offered in Wilmar—something that the Main Street Project is pleased to support especially in this election year. "The Main Street Project is really excited to be able to partner in this event. As a civic engagement organization, it is always exciting to see people get involved. For those applying for citizenship, this is a huge step and obviously, one that has a lot a significance," said Amalia Anderson, Project Director, Main Street Project and Co-Director of The Raíces Project. "Citizenship Day 2008" is part of a national effort by the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), the single-day workshops held nationwide works to assist permanent residents complete their naturalization applications.
