Main Street Project supports DOJ action to block AT&T merger
Minneapolis, MN - On Wednesday, the Department of Justice filed a civil lawsuit to block the proposed merger between AT&T and T-Mobile. According to the DOJ’s statement, the merger would substantially harm competition and raise prices for wireless users.
Steven Renderos, media justice program director for Main Street Project said, “This move by the federal government proves that the mathematics of the merger don’t add up to anything good for Minnesotans. We’ve had major concerns about the merger’s impact on jobs and the cost of service for people of color, rural communities and low- income individuals. We look forward to continued action by the Department of Justice and the Federal Communications Commission. It’s time to make sure the public understands that more mergers equals more problems.”
Renderos went on to acknowledge the efforts of Minnesota Senator Al Franken. “We’re proud that Sen. Franken has been such an outspoken critic of the merger. We all need to keep up the pressure.”
Main Street Project is a cultural organizing and media justice organization working to help rural and urban communities face today’s realities with hope. We’re also an anchor organization with the national Media Action Grassroots Network (MAG-Net). For more information visit mainstreetproject.org.
