2010 Census
Watch this site for frequent updates between now and April 1, Census Day.
Immigrants, homeless, low-income and people of color have a stake in the 2010 Census count. Each person represents around $1,200 in federal funding for their community for services such as schools, hospitals and transportation. That’s more than $10,000 per person and more than $40,000 for a family of four over ten years! Plus, an undercount of as few as 1,400 people puts Minnesota at risk for losing a Congressional seat.
As it has in the past, concerns over how Census data will be used and how their privacy will be protected may keep members of these communities from participating. Getting accurate and cultural/language-specific information from organizations and leaders they know and trust is critical.
