We're developing a poultry-centered regenerative agriculture system that can change how food is produced around the world.
Our food and agriculture system is not working. Consumers experience declining nutritional quality and increasing health risks; agricultural workers endure long hours and low wages; rural communities are declining economically; and the environment suffers from soil depletion, chemical inputs and toxic waste.
The current structure of ownership and control of our food and agriculture system concentrates power in the hands of a select few, regards consumers merely as a source of revenue, and treats the environment as nothing more than the source of the products that capture that revenue. And we all pay the price.
We can do better. And at Main Street Project, we are. Main Street Project is developing a regenerative agriculture system that can equip farmers to solve our nation’s food crisis and has the power to change how food is produced around the world.
For more than a decade, Main Street Project been working to create pathways out of poverty for the growing numbers of rural Latino immigrants relegated to working in low-wage farm and food industry jobs, with no benefits and no future.
In the beginning, we developed programs to deliver more specialized agriculture training and skills that could help immigrant workers increase their incomes and leverage new job opportunities. We quickly realized that our industrial food system is actually built on a foundation of low-wage work, externalized costs and direct subsidies; unsustainable by design and beyond repair. We needed a bigger approach. We needed a new system.
Purchase your share in the 2018 Chicken CSA and you’ll support our agripreneur training program and help build a regional agriculture economy that is grounded in our poultry-centered regenerative agriculture system.
A half share ($100) guarantees you six chickens. With the purchase of a full share ($200), you’ll receive 12 chickens.
Main Street Project is developing a new agriculture system to meet some of our most profound challenges: delivering healthy, wholesome food, reducing chemical- and antibiotic-intensive farming, reversing environmental damage, and building rural prosperity.
Our strategy is focused on changing the current conventional system by deploying an alternative, small-scale system that is accessible, productive and economically viable. Our agriculture model and training will help equip the next generation of farmers to solve our nation’s food crisis.
Our work is currently focused on our demonstration farms to document the viability, sustainability and scalability of our poultry-centered regenerative agriculture system. We welcome the interest and support of thought leaders, potential collaborators, organizational funders and individual donors.
